Let’s go shopping!

August 8, 2023 by Nafsika-Marina Smyrli

Objectives: To learn or revise vocabulary in a fun way.

Age group: Preschoolers, age 4/5-6 years old.

Preparation: You will need some plastic fruits/vegetables/different types of food to place in the middle of the circle to help children get some ideas.

Instructions: Ask students to sit in a circle. Sit with them in the circle. Start by saying the utterance; “Let’s go shopping! I will buy a carrot.” The student sitting next to you repeats the phrase and adds something new. For instance, “Let’s go shopping! I will buy a carrot and some tomatoes”. The next student repeats your phrase, and his/her classmate’s phrase and he/she adds something new. For example, “Let’s go shopping! I will buy a carrot, some tomatoes, and some potatoes”.

Time: 10-20 minutes.

Note: For preschoolers, do not insist on repeating the whole phrase each time. Encourage them to name the fruits/vegetables in English.
